HOOSICK, N.Y. -- On Monday the New York State Police, with the assistance of the Village of Hoosick Falls Police Department, the Rennselaer County Sheriff's Department, and New York Environmental Conservation Police, responded to a domestic dispute on State Route 22 in the Town of Hoosick, according to State Police.
According to police reports, the suspect in the dispute, Keith F. Gates, age 44, of Hoosick, fired several rounds from a long gun out of the rear of the residence.
Upon law enforcement's arrival, Gates made threats toward himself and responding officers then refused to exit the residence. State Police crisis negotiators communicated with Gates for several hours during which time Gates refused to exit the residence. Entry to the residence was initially made with the use of robotic surveillance equipment which located Gates in an upstairs bedroom with an apparent self inflicted gunshot wound to the head. The State Police Special Operations Response Team then immediately secured the residence and initiated life saving measures, according to police.
Police said Gates was transported to Albany Medical Center by Cambridge Valley rescue squad where he is listed in grave condition.
