SHAFTSBURY -- Authorities responded to snow-related accidents around the region as the weekend's snowfall topped six inches in some locations.

Saturday afternoon at approximately 1:15 p.m., state police received a report of a single-vehicle crash on Airport Road in Shaftsbury. In that incident, police reported Daisy Mears, 38, had been traveling east when her vehicle slid off the road and struck a tree. The Shaftsbury resident was not injured in the crash, although her 2002 Ford Focus was reported totaled.

Eastward, state police out of Rockingham reported 24 separate accidents, most of which occurred on Interstate 91 as a result of weather. Police said several traffic tickets were issued to operators for traveling too fast for road conditions and failing to maintain control of their vehicles.

On Sunday, Bennington Police were reminding local homeowners and snow plow operators that depositing snow onto the traveled way, shoulder, or sidewalk of a state highway or local road is a crime, punishable by a $70 fine. State Agency of Transportation and town employees are exempt in their official duties.
