BENNINGTON -- A former hospital technician was given a suspended sentence Friday and told to do community service for pleading guilty to illegally accessing another woman’s medical records.
Kathy Tatro, 54, of Bennington, pleaded guilty to four counts of unauthorized computer access. The state dismissed four other such counts along with a felony identity theft charge. Tatro was given a 6- to 12-month suspended sentence, 160 of community service, and 2 years on probation. She was also ordered to pay a $2,000 fine.
In February 2011, Tatro, who worked at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center, pleaded not guilty to allegations she accessed the medical records of Catherine Taylor, who is the ex-wife of Keith Tatro, Kathy Tatro’s husband, as well as a nurse at SVMC.
Taylor told police in July 2011 she learned Kathy Tatro had accessed her medical records a number of times in the past six months. She told police she also learned her children’s records were accessed many more times between 1998 and May 2010.
