BENNINGTON -- A man pleaded guilty Tuesday to breaking another man’s hand with a baseball bat during a domestic dispute in September.

Joshua Camp, 32, of Bennington, pleaded guilty to second degree aggravated domestic assault, aggravated assault, two counts of unlawful mischief, and two counts of violating an abuse prevention order. According to Judge Cortland Corsones, a pre-sentencing investigation will be conducted prior to a contested sentencing hearing in which the state has agreed it will not argue for Camp to serve more than 10 years in prison.

The state dismissed a burglary charge and intends to dismiss a violation of abuse prevention order charge at sentencing.

According to an affidavit by state police, two troopers were sent to Stateline Drive in September after a woman called to say Camp had entered the home she was in, assaulted a man she was with, damaged his vehicle and a television.

Police said the woman had a restraining order against Camp at the time as the two had formerly been in a relationship. She told police she had woken to find Camp in the home, yelling, and saw him hit the man she was with a metal baseball bat. She said she intervened and was shoved into a refrigerator. According to her, Camp also used the bat to break a television and damage the man’s vehicle. Neighbors helped remove Camp from the home, she told police.

Camp pleaded guilty to shoving the woman, hitting the man, breaking the television, and damaging the vehicle. He also pleaded guilty to trying to contact the woman twice through letters.
