GREENWICH, N.Y. -- Police report the arrest of an 18-year-old Ballston Spa man on charges he stole from at least 30 parked cars last week in Greenwich and stabbed two cats he encountered.

Joseph R. Amash was charged with one count of third-degree burglary, 20 counts of petit larceny and two felony counts of animal cruelty.

In a written release, Cambridge-Greenwich police said Amash was alleged to have entered at least 30 unlocked vehicles in the village of Greenwich during the early morning hours of Oct. 4, stealing loose change, bookbags, knives, iPods, and an iPhone.

Police said Amash also entered a garage on Washington Street, where he stole cases of beer and, while in the garage, encountered two cats that he allegedly stabbed. Police said one cat was stabbed in the side because it was meowing, while the second was struck on the top of the head with the knife. One cat was believed to be dead while the other is recovering.

Amash was arraigned in Greenwich village court and was committed to Washington County Jail in lieu of $20,000 cash bail. A grand jury is expected to review the case later this month.
