ARLINGTON -- The Select Board met Arlington's new representative at a meeting Monday.
Over the course of the summer Vermont finished drawing new lines for its legislative districts. After much political wrangling, Arlington and Manchester now share a district. Rep. Jeff Wilson, D-Manchester, is running unopposed for re-election, as is Rep. Cynthia Browning, D-Arlington, who is also a member of the Arlington Select Board.
Wilson said he has served in the House for three terms and is a member of its Ways and Means Committee.
He was asked by board Chairman Keith Squires what his thoughts on health care are. Wilson said he would like to see a departure from the "status quo," but would also like to see firmer details on any single-payer plan proposed. He said it might be that Vermont cannot change much until federal health care reforms take effect.
In other business, the board accepted a bid from Beaudoin Paving for $33,035 to pave Church Street, part of River Road, Pleasant Street, part of Carbonti Circle, and the parking area off Russell Street. The last two areas were added after the bid went out and the board said it would not spend more than $6,000 on them.
