HOOSICK FALLS, N.Y. -- Police were continuing to investigate the theft of electronics from a local area youth center. The items were stolen overnight last weekend in the midst of a fall-themed community celebration, Pumpkinpalooza, in Hoosick Falls.
The Hoosick Armory Youth Center and Community Coalition operates the youth center and also primarily organized this past weekend’s event. Police Chief Robert Ashe said the theft from the center occurred sometime after midnight Sunday morning, and included five laptop computers, a flatscreen television, and a Nintendo Wii console and several Wii video games. Ashe said the investigation remained active and ongoing.
A $500 reward has been offered for information, and an advertised appeal for help indicates the crime was committed by a local. Ashe said the items stolen were contents that people would have known were at the center. "They knew what they were going for," he said. The police chief said the community pooled together to raise the reward.
John Bombard and Mike Bloomer, the owners of the Man of Kent Tavern on NY Route 7 and The Sand Bar in Hoosick Falls, respectively, were credited for helping to replace the stolen items earlier this week.
