GREENWICH, N.Y. -- Local authorities reported a large number of vehicle break-ins throughout the village of Greenwich earlier this week.

Cambridge-Greenwich Police Chief George Bell said Thursday that 26 total vehicles were broken into in Greenwich but the spate had not yet stretched to Cambridge. The Washington County Sheriff’s Office continued to investigate a series of vehicle break-ins last week in Argyle.

The vehicles broken into this week were parked along downtown streets including Elbow, Washington and John streets and Corliss Avenue. In a written release, police said the vehicles were believed to be entered in the early morning hours.

Police were asking for the public’s assistance and for anyone with information to contact Greenwich police at 518-692-9332. Authorities were also advising all residents to keep their vehicles locked and to remove all valuable items from cars.
