Fire leads to drug charges

ARLINGTON -- State police said they have cited a man for allegedly growing marijuana plants and possessing drugs after a fire on his property brought him into contact with troopers.

Vermont State Police Trooper Lewis Hatch wrote that on Sept. 9 at 6:16 p.m. he was dispatched to a home on Route 7A where an "out of control" fire was reported. While talking to Larry Clayton, 60, Hatch said he noticed Clayton was in possession of cocaine and arrested him. Police obtained a search warrant and found on his property 11 marijuana plants, and narcotic pills Clayton did not have a prescription for. Clayton was issued a citation to appear in Bennington Superior Court Criminal Division on Nov. 19.
