BENNINGTON -- Bennington police said a 13-year-old boy is facing a theft charge in Bennington Superior Court Family Division after an officer witnessed him stealing a coat from a firefighter’s vehicle Friday at the Bennington Village Fire Department’s "Las Vegas Night," held at the Fire House on River Street.
According to Bennington Police Lt. Lloyd Dean, an officer with the department watched the 13-year-old attempt to remove a tote from a firefighter’s vehicle. Being unable to remove the entire thing, the boy opened it and took a turnout coat, valued at $900, and attempted to hide it in a family member’s vehicle before he was approached by the officer.
The incident happened at 7:30 p.m. The coat was returned to the department.
