DUI charge after crash totals vehicle
SUNDERLAND -- A Bellows Falls man was processed for driving under the influence after he collided with a set of guardrails on Route 7, totaling his vehicle.
State police said charges against 27-year-old Justin Govotski were pending the results of an evidentiary blood test. Police were dispatched to the single-vehicle crash at approximately 5:45 p.m. Saturday. The accident occurred near exit 3 in the town of Sunderland, and when police and firefighters arrived, they found Govotski outside his vehicle bleeding heavily from a laceration to his head.
Police said their investigation indicated that alcohol and an excessive rate of speed were contributing factors in the crash. Govotski’s vehicle, a 2010 GMC Sierra Crew Cab, collided with the guardrail in a way that the rail was driven through the engine compartment and cab of the truck, into the bed/cargo area. The truck was totaled, police said.
Govotski was transported by Arlington Rescue to Southwestern Vermont Medical Center where he was evaluated and treated for his injuries. The Arlington Fire Department assisted at the scene with traffic control.
