POWNAL -- State police reported a domestic dispute Sunday which resulted in multiple charges for a Bennington man.
Twenty-year-old Kyle J. Ware was arrested and charged with aggravated domestic assault, unlawful restraint, unlawful mischief, interference with access to emergency services, and possession of malt beverages following the incident which occurred Sunday morning.
In a written release, police said they responded to a residence off Route 7 in Pownal at approximately 6 a.m., for a reported dispute that had occurred at another location. Speaking with the victim, who was not identified, police said the woman reported having been assaulted and held against her will at the Northwest Hill Road residence in Pownal where the incident occurred. Police said the victim was held for over three hours, and she indicated she was choked several times, thrown about and was injured from the dispute.
Police said the victim attempted to leave but was allegedly restrained by Ware, who carried the woman back inside as she attempted to flee and yell for help.
Police said the victim eventually awoke another resident of the house, who distracted Ware while she fled the home. While leaving, Ware damaged the victim’s car by hitting the windshield. The woman fled to a nearby friend’s house and called 911.
Police said Ware was later located in Bennington, and subsequently turned himself in to the state police barracks, where he showed signs of intoxication. Ware was held for lack of $25,000, and lodged at Marble Valley Regional Correctional Facility in Rutland, pending a court appearance today, Monday.
