Voyeurism brings deferred sentence

BENNINGTON -- A local man who say filmed his roommate with an iPhone as she got out of the shower was given a two-year deferred sentenced Friday in Bennington Superior Court, Criminal Division.

Ulysses Ivy, 28, pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of voyeurism after being arraigned in January. He will be on probation and under sex offender conditions, but if he completes what the Department of Corrections requires of him, the conviction will be expunged.

Deputy State's Attorney Christina Rainville said the sentence is appropriate owing to Ivy's lack of a criminal record. He has cooperated with police and expressed remorse. Rainville said the state feels it was a one-time event and Ivy will not reoffend.

According to police, Ivy's then-roommate, a 26-year-old woman, told them she learned of the video after hearing an argument about it between Ivy and his girlfriend. Ivy admitted to police that he'd filmed the woman, and said it was not the kind of thing he normally did.
