WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -- Two different presentations of the play "Frankenstein" come to the Sterling and Francine Clark Art Institute on Thursday, July 19, and Thursday, July 26, at 4 pm, recorded live in HD at London’s National Theatre.

This unique production, adapted for the stage by Nick Dear and directed by Danny Boyle ("Slumdog Millionaire"), based on the classic novel by Mary Shelley, stars Benedict Cumberbatch and Jonny Lee Miller alternating in the roles of Victor Frankenstein and the Creature. On July 19, Benedict Cumberbatch will play the role of the Creature; on July 26 he will play the role of Victor Frankenstein.

Childlike in his innocence but grotesque in form, Frankenstein’s bewildered Creature is cast out into a hostile universe by his horror-struck maker. Meeting with cruelty wherever he goes, the friendless Creature, increasingly desperate and vengeful, determines to track down his creator and strike a terrifying deal. Urgent concerns of scientific responsibility, parental neglect, cognitive development, and the nature of good and evil are embedded within this thrilling and deeply disturbing classic gothic tale.
