WOODFORD -- A search team comprised of the Vermont State Police and Bennington Rural Fire Department located a lost hiker Tuesday evening.
Trooper John-Paul Schmidt said the Vermont State Police received a 911 call Tuesday evening from the 70-year-old Florida man who went for a day hike on the Little Pond trail reporting that he had become lost.
Dispatchers were able to speak to the man on his cell phone and used
GPS to help locate him, according to Schmidt. Coordinates were difficult to ascertain, however, because of limited triangulation spots in Woodford, he said. Fire and rescue personnel were also called to assist in the search.
"We like to kind of work as a team through these things so we called the fire department and the rescue squad in case he needed medical attention," Schmidt said.
Searchers located the man on Harbour Road around 9 p.m.
