BRATTLEBORO (AP) -- Police say a planned protest against the continued operation of the Vermont Yankee nuclear power plant could snarl traffic in Brattleboro.
Police say an estimated 500 people could descend on the community late Thursday morning.
The protesters are then planning to march to the corporate headquarters of the plant. A number of the protesters are expected to trespass onto the company’s property in Brattleboro and be arrested.
The plant is located in Vernon.
The plant’s original 40-year operating license expires Wednesday. The Nuclear Regulatory Commission has issued a 20-year license extension, but the state of Vermont has moved to shut the plant down. A federal court judge has allowed the plant to continue operating while the legal battle over its future continues.
