PITTSTOWN, N.Y. -- A couple is facing animal cruelty charges after New York State Police said that an investigation on Oct. 7 found two dogs abandoned and in poor condition at the couple’s former home on Log Woods Road.

Police said that John J. Dobert, 43, and Brandy H. Dobert, 35, were located on Hampton Avenue in East Greenbush. Police said the two dogs left at the Pittstown residence had been left without food or water and were in poor condition.

Troop G Press Officer Maureen Tuffey said that the investigating trooper reported that the dogs were malnourished and had torn the house apart in an effort to get outside.

Police said the two were charged with three counts of abandonment of an animal and three counts of animal cruelty by failing to provide sustenance. Both charges are misdemeanors. Police said the animals were turned over to Brunswick Animal Control Officer Kathy Crommer.

Crommer said the dogs are being lodged at Creekside Kennel in Averill Park.
