BENNINGTON — A local land surveyor was recently honored for being the oldest working surveyor in the state.

Maurice Stephens Winn, 88, of Bennington, was honored with a resolution passed by the Vermont Legislature honoring his work in Vermont. Born in Barnet, Winn has resided for most of his life in Bennington. He graduated from the University of New Hampshire in 1942 with a degree in forestry.

Winn worked as a forester for many years, before devoting his time as an independent land surveyor.

He was presented with the resolution Tuesday at a small ceremony at the town offices, attended by members of his family. Also attending were three of the several local state representatives who sponsored the resolution, Reps. Joseph L. Krawczyk Jr., Mary Morrissey and Timothy Corcoran II.

Bennington Town Clerk Timothy Corcoran and Assistant Town Clerk Cassandra Barbeau, who read the resolution, also attended.
