NORTH BENNINGTON North Bennington Graded School students were slightly fidgety Friday afternoon as they sat on the gymnasium floor, perhaps looking forward to the end of the week.

SHAFTSBURY A local man allegedly struck a parked car Thursday and kept driving.
Phillip Casey, 23, was arrested for leaving the scene of an accident and cited for driving with a suspended license after police located the damaged 1994 Saturn, believed to be involved, at his residence, according to Vermont State Police.

BENNINGTON Theodore Francis Doucette, a long-time resident of Bennington, and co-founder of the Bennington Area AIDS Project, died at his home Tuesday at the age of 82.
Born in Winthrop, Mass., in 1926, Doucette graduated from Millbury High School in Millbury, Mass. He then enlisted in the Army Air Corps, which would shape a project he undertook in Bennington later

BENNINGTON A Vermont Legal Aid program that works with nursing home residents to help them resolve issues is seeking volunteers in the Bennington area.
Amanda Henchel, volunteer coordinator for the organization's Long Term Care Ombudsman Project, said the project only had one volunteer to serve those in the five nursing homes in Bennington County.

SHAFTSBURY The town Planning Committee is working to revise Shaftsbury's town plan before it expires early next year.
Planning Committee Chairman Craig Bruder said the town is under some pressure to complete the plan. "The plan was last updated in 2004," Bruder said. "It expires in March 2009, right around the town meeting.

BENNINGTON A man accused of the 2006 murder of a Winhall resident is now facing an additional charge of kidnapping.
Bennington County State's Attorney Erica Marthage announced on Thursday that she would be upgrading an unlawful restraint charge against Christopher Kosmalski, 28, of Rutland, to kidnapping.

SHAFTSBURY The town Select Board continues to deal with money issues as it braces for the possibility of a deficit at the end of this fiscal year.
The board is looking to avoid a repeat of the end of the last fiscal year, in which members discovered the town had run a sizable deficit.
