No need for apartments
Shires Housing placed an ad in Thursday's Banner offering two-, three-, and four-bedroom apartments, available in May. The apartments seem to be in a recently refurbished house. This nicely grows from one of Shires' missions: "Promoting a sense of pride in the community by upgrading existing neighborhoods through renovations and restoration of existing housing stock." In light of this, Shires' desire to build Monument View between Silver and South Streets is curious. First, its own ad admits there is no demonstrable need for more apartments, since it already has apartments it is trying to fill. Second, the Silver-South Street neighborhood does not need upgrading. It is just fine as it is. Unless, of course, that plot of land between Silver and South Streets were to be turned into a park.
