Rising river cancels Hoosic River Float event

Saturday's early morning rain increased the flow in the Hoosic River to more than 1,300 cubic feet per second, making it too fast to safely stage the Hoosic River Paddle and Float. Organized by the Hoosic River Watershed Association, the event had over 50 paddlers signed up to participate and many enthusiastically asked for a "rain date." HooRWA wishes to thank its major sponsors, MountainOne Bank, Southwestern Vermont Medical Center, Alton and Westall Real Estate and local business from throughout the watershed.

This year's raffle prize winners were Michele Slowey-Ogert who won a kayak from Berkshire Outfitters, Foster Goodrich who won a Diamond Mountain bike from The Spoke, Peter Prange who was the winner of a 3" caliper shade tree from Elhannon Wholesale Nursery, Wendy Skavlem was the winner of a gift certificate from Nature's Closet and Cindy Delpapa won a fly-fishing rod and reel.

The Hoosic River Watershed is dedicated to the restoration, conservation and enjoyment of the Hoosic River and its watershed, through education, research and advocacy. For more information, contact HooRWA at 413-458-2742 or www.hoorwa.org.
