Table setting

Make wind less of an issue

Skip the tablecloth and give that slightly annoying — yet blissful — breeze less of a chance of ruining your party. Also, greet guests with a bowl of fruit to help weigh down any place settings.

Make sure you can see the food

An evening garden party is lovely, but not when you can't see what you're eating. Account for the setting sun and make sure you have lots of outdoor lighting. Nervous about candles? Buy battery operated.

Keep it simple, seriously

We all know, simple is best, but sometimes we forget! When outdoors, set up a drink station for guests to help themselves and a buffet table — with plenty of food covers to keep the bugs away.

Don't forget party games!

Take advantage of nice weather and set up a game of croquet, or put a deck of cards on the table for a rousing game of Go Fish with after-dinner drinks. Feeling adventurous? Start a hula-hoop competition.
