Town picnic

On June 25 starting at 9:30 a.m., Vernon residents are invited to the town's annual picnic and firefighters' muster.

From 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m., there will be a softball game between Vernon residents and town employees. At noon, the Vernon Fire Department will take on members from area fire departments in the muster.

The fire department will also prepare a barbecue lunch. There will be a penny carnival from 3 to 5 p.m. and a town potluck from 5 to 7 p.m. Dance to a DJ at the pavilion and stay to watch the fireworks.

Chicken dinner

On June 25, from 5 to 7 p.m., the North Hinsdale Community Church is hosting a barbecue chicken dinner at 105 Meeting House Road.

The menu includes barbecue children, applesauce, baked beans, homemade coleslaw, rolls, and strawberry shortcake.
