NORTH BENNINGTON -- The Vermont Arts Exchange (VAE), located at the Sage Street Mill, is pleased to announce a new exhibition of recent work by eight Bennington College student artists graduating in Dec. 2012. This show of senior work, "EXIT," opens with a reception on Monday, Dec. 3, 5 to 8 p.m. -- all are welcome. The exhibition is on view in VAE’s Mill Gallery through Sunday, Dec. 9.
The works on view by student artists Robert DeLanghe, Miles Ditzler, Lizzie Fainberg, Julianne Lee, Mickey Roberts, Emily Jane Rosen, Becky Squire and Chendru Starkloff include ceramics, photography, sculpture, architecture, video and painting.
"Usually visual arts students who graduate in Dec. display their senior work independently around campus, but this year there are so many of us that Lizzie Fainberg and I figured we’d organize a show," says Emily Jane Rosen, one of the co-organizers of the exhibition. "Many of us will also display our work in Bennington College’s Usdan Gallery show during the springtime graduation ceremony, but it feels good to have a show now first, before we make our exit from the school."
"This is an exciting show on many levels," says Matthew Perry, director of VAE. "It will be the first Bennington Student group show initiated and curated by the students, for the students. To us, this is just as important an aspect of the exhibit than the work on display. Having the opportunity in your senior year of college to be part of a public group show in a gallery can be a valuable lesson."
Also on view in the Mill Gallery is VAE’s Annual Group Artists’ Show & Sale, featuring work by talented local artists and VAE friends.
