Music from Salem hosts Children’s Workshops
CAMBRIDGE, N.Y. -- Music from Salem will host free Children’s Workshops, lively introduction to music-making and listening for children ages 6-12, led by MfS artistic directors and visiting musicians, on Thursday, Aug. 9, 1 p.m., at Bancroft Public Library, 181 S. Main St. Salem.
Celebrating its 25th season, MfS is a chamber music series that brings together accomplished musicians of international reputation each summer to lead educational workshops and seminars and prepare chamber music in the peace and beauty of rural Washington County, New York.

VAE Art Bus youth programs at Northshire
MANCHESTER -- The Vermont Arts Exchange’s Art Bus will be visiting the Northshire Bookstore -- to offer artists, ages 8-12 years old four exciting classes to help celebrate these last days of summer -- Tuesday and Wednesday, Aug. 14-15. Reservations are requested by Friday, Aug. 10.
On Aug. 14, a Sculpture class will be held from 9:30 a.m. to noon, where kids will be able to create 3-D sculpture from a single, square block of rigid foam. Later, a Drawing from Nature & Townscapes class will be held from 1:30-4 p.m.; this session will show students how to find inspiration for drawing from the landscape surrounding the bookstore. On Aug. 15, the class Creative Book Sculpture will be held from 9:30 a.m. to noon, where kids will transform a blank starter book into a one of a kind personal journal or sculpture. Later, Storytelling through Cartooning will be held from 1:30 to 4 p.m., where kids will learn the techniques and skills that will allow you to begin drawing cartoons, and then add words to create a story.

Valley Artisans Market hosts crafting demonstrations
CAMBRIDGE, N.Y. -- The Valley Artisans Market will host crafting demonstrations by local weaver Mary Ann Hoffay and paper artist Cecily Callahan-Spaulding on Saturday, Aug. 18. Hoffay will begin her handweaving demo at noon, and Callahan-Spaulding’s demonstration will start at 2 p.m. The demonstrations are free and open to the public.
The demonstrations are part of VAM’s Annual Pottery Seconds and Art Sale, which is being held this year on Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 18-19, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Hosts homes for Plein Air artists sought
NORTH BENNINGTON -- Plein Air VT 2012, which produces the annual Plein Air Festival locally, is looking for host homes for participating artists who come from all over the Eastern U.S. to paint outdoors in our area. These artists will arrive in North Bennington on Tuesday, Sept. 4, and paint, exhibit and sell their work through Sunday, Sept. 9. That’s six days, which means five nights of lodging are asked for. The are "delightful and appreciative individuals," according to supplied material, who only require a bed, washcloth and towel. No meals are expected, not even breakfast.

VAE offers space in PrintRoom
NORTH BENNINGTON -- The Vermont Arts Exchange has now opened the PrintRoom -- a "free range" co-working space for creativity, collaboration and work -- located at the Sage Street Mill and open for daily drop-ins or monthly, quarterly or annual members.
The PrintRoom, aptly named for its collection of letterpress equipment donated by Bill Scott, is a sunny, airy space with worktables, stools and shared desks. The fully accessible facility offers Wi-Fi, shared color printers and a coffee bar and espresso machine.

Bennington Arts Guild seeks members
BENNINGTON -- The Bennington Arts Guild (BAG), a cooperative organization of professional artists from Bennington and the surrounding areas, is actively seeking new members. Juried professional artist members run the gallery two-to-three shifts each month, work on a committee, and attend four mandatory meetings each year.
