SVAC hosts Dawn Miller painting workshop
MANCHESTER -- The Southern Vermont Arts Center will host a four-day painting workshop taught by Dawn Miller -- artist and faculty member of the Vero Beach Museum of Art -- on Aug. 1-4, from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
According to supplied material, the course will offers a solid, painter-friendly approach to obtaining a likeness in portraiture -- "while having fun." Students will begin with understanding the architecture of the face, then investigate how to use color and light to render believable skin tones and shadows. They will also cover how to select the best photo references, how to "build" hair and how to select and develop a supportive background. Students will work from photos in the medium of their choice. Miller will be working in pastels.

Music from Salem hosts Children’s Workshops
CAMBRIDGE, N.Y. -- Music from Salem will host free Children’s Workshops, lively introduction to music-making and listening for children ages 6-12, led by MfS artistic directors and visiting musicians, in August.
The dates, times and locations are: Thursday, Aug. 2, 1 p.m., at Salem Courthouse, 58 E. Broadway Salem; and Thursday, Aug. 9, 1 p.m., at Bancroft Public Library, 181 S. Main St. Salem.

Hildene offers three summer camps
MANCHESTER -- Hildene continues to have space in three of its camps for the 2012 summer season: Manchester artist, designer and educator Stacy Gates leads "Art of Hildene," July 30 to Aug. 3, for children ages 7-8 and from Aug. 6 -10, for children ages 9-10; Art educator Lavinia Lowerre will lead the "Young at Art" camp for children ages 5-6, June 25-29; and the "Watershed Wonders" camp for children entering 4th, 5th or 6th grade.

GNAT-TV hosts summer camps for kids
MANCHESTER -- Greater Northshire Access Television will host several summer camps for children this year: a 3-day Intensive Video Editing Class open to children ages 12-15 and instructing students in media making, the finer points of video production and digital editing, on Aug. 6-8, from 1 to 5 p.m.; a PSA Camp, a two day workshop for children aged 11-14, on July 23-24 from 1 to 5 p.m.; and Studio Production, a 2-day workshop geared toward kids between the ages of 11-14, on Aug. 13-14 from 1 to 5 p.m.

Hosts homes for Plein Air artists sought
NORTH BENNINGTON -- Plein Air VT 2012, which produces the annual Plein Air Festival locally, is looking for host homes for participating artists who come from all over the Eastern U.S. to paint outdoors in our area. These artists will arrive in North Bennington on Tuesday, Sept. 4, and paint, exhibit and sell their work through Sunday, Sept. 9. That’s six days, which means five nights of lodging are asked for. The are "delightful and appreciative individuals," according to supplied material, who only require a bed, washcloth and towel. No meals are expected, not even breakfast.

VAE offers space in PrintRoom
NORTH BENNINGTON -- The Vermont Arts Exchange has now opened the PrintRoom -- a "free range" co-working space for creativity, collaboration and work -- located at the Sage Street Mill and open for daily drop-ins or monthly, quarterly or annual members.
The PrintRoom, aptly named for its collection of letterpress equipment donated by Bill Scott, is a sunny, airy space with worktables, stools and shared desks. The fully accessible facility offers Wi-Fi, shared color printers and a coffee bar and espresso machine.

BENNINGTON -- The Bennington Arts Guild (BAG), a cooperative organization of professional artists from Bennington and the surrounding areas, is actively seeking new members.
