ROSES to Bennington's Battle Day celebrations this weekend. What a fun little holiday we have to call our own. Be sure to take part in some of the festivities, including the Battle Day 5K on Saturday, the parade on Sunday, and the historical re-enactments both days at the Bennington Battle Monument and the Bennington Battlefield.
ROSES to Kimberly Farms' Family Fun Day, slated for Saturday, during which the Shaftsbury farm will bring together the youth and families it serves through its Gallup For Success program. The nonprofit Gallup For Success helps at-risk youth ages 7 to 17 gain confidence, self-esteem and leadership skills through work on the farm. ROSES also to the many area businesses that have donated food and volunteers and auction items to the worthwhile event.
ROSES to Hoosick Falls Central School students who completed an athlete leadership trip to Raquette Lake, New York, recently. The trip allowed the 26 Hoosick Falls athletes who participated to work on problem-solving, team bonding, assuming leadership roles and achieving school pride. And they probably had a great time, too.
ROSES to area college, high school, and middle school athletes just getting back to practice for the fall sports season. We hope you have fun, study as hard as you play, and stay injury free.
THORNS to a downward adjustment in the state revenue forecast that has forced the Vermont Veterans' Home and all state agencies to make cuts in general funds as well enact a hiring freeze.
ROSES to the Bennington Select Board's authorization this week to allow the Bennington County Regional Commission to move forward with plans to build a bike and walking path along Kocher Drive. The path will make it easier for children who live nearby to safely walk and bike to school and will also connect different parts of town for pedestrians.
ROSES to the Village of Hoosick Falls Board of Trustees for approving the acquisition of railroad property for the Hoosick River Greenway. The land, owned by Pan Am Railroad, is the missing piece of the puzzle to complete the greenway. This will be another place to bike and walk in the area!
