BENNINGTON >> Every First Friday is "Pay-What-You-Wish" after 5 p.m. Join us on Sept. 2 and celebrate the birthday of Anna Mary Robertson "Grandma" Moses with a slice of birthday cake and at 5:30 p.m. a guided tour of the Moses Gallery. Talk with our Director of Public Programs Deana Mallory and learn about this fascinating self-taught artist. Enjoy the recently installed Grandma Moses gallery of paintings including a number of works from The Night Before Christmas series among others. Some of these have never been on view before.
At 6:30 p.m., join Independent Critic and Scholar of American Modernism, Karen Wilkin, and Curator at Bennington Museum, Jamie Franklin for a conversation about Milton Avery and his work. Both Wilkin and Franklin have written extensive essays on Avery for the catalogue which accompanies Milton Avery's Vermont, on view at the museum through November 6. Both Wilkin and Franklin look to share some of their insight about this great American modernist and the work he created based upon his summers spent in southern Vermont, 1935 through 1943. Enjoy the wonderful exhibition, Milton Avery's Vermont while learning more about his style, inspiration, and life. Then step into the Bennington Modernism Gallery and hear about Avery's impact on the development of color field painting.
While at the museum don't forget to spend time in the Works on Paper Gallery featuring Duane Michals: Photographs from the Floating World and in the Regional Artists' Gallery to see Mark Barry's Something About Summer.
Finally, stop in our Museum Store for wonderful items that are discounted only on First Fridays.
