BENNINGTON >> Music at Bennington College proudly encourages the greater Bennington community to join us in a free, week-long festival of culminating student work, May 9 through May 15.

"The senior concerts are an eclectic, genre-bashing, fun series of events taking place everywhere from the historic Carriage Barn to the resonant Lens to the old creaky Jennings mansion where Music lives," said Nick Brooke, composer/professor of Music at Bennington College.

It's A Festival!

Senior Concert Week at Bennington College is a relatively recent invention. Every spring graduating seniors in music have traditionally offered concerts to show culminating work. And it's not new that students are allowed to choose the music that they feel best expresses them individually. What's new is to combine shorter concerts into a festival so that it's easy for a concertgoer to hear as many as four contrasting student visions in one evening.

"You'll hear everything from beautiful choral pieces, string quartets, meditative jazz to heavy metal to sound installations like the intricately electronic instrumentarium invented by Sam Irwin '16 [Friday 8:45pm, Margot Tenney]..." said Brooke

"Everyone's really putting their soul into what they're doing," said Dale Hoagland '16, whose immersive Diorama featuring a choir of masked women dancer-singers, a house-sized metal sculpture, jazz drums and piano with haunting trumpet and clarinet, shows on May 11 at 8 p.m. in the college's vast Greenwall auditorium, "for the purpose of sharing it. It means nothing if it's not shared."
