Sunrise Family Resource Center recently received a grant and is the host agency for the Expanding Strengthening Families to Family Child Care Homes Project through Vermont Birth to Five (VB5), a program working to strengthen the quality of infant and toddler care in Vermont. Vermont Birth to Five is an initiative supported by the Permanent Fund for Vermont's Children, the A.D. Henderson Foundation, and the Turrell Fund.

Thirteen home child care providers are participating in this project in Bennington County.

These providers include: Katie Livingston; Jodi Pratt; Jennifer King; Cara Watson (Miles of Smiles); Tanya Mayer (ABC's Daycare); Christina Lincourt (Christina's Childcare); Randa Howe (Randa's Daycare); Brenda Bushee (Nana & Papa's Lil's); Anna Harwood (Anna's Wee Care); Lynn Peters (Lynn's Daycare); Mallory McGurn; Michelle Prouty (Forever Friends Playschool); and Lori Gratton (Lori's Daycare.)

The providers met weekly from March 3 through June 30, 2015 and completed the eight modules associated with the Strengthening Families Framework. The goal of Strengthening Families is to help child care providers learn strategies to strengthen families in order to prevent child abuse and neglect and improve the quality of child care. The providers are now able to identify and describe the 5 Protective Factors and their role in preventing child abuse and neglect. The 13 providers and their VB5 mentor, Brenda Schramm, will continue to meet monthly along with the Family Resource Coach from Sunrise for additional learning and support through year end 2017.
