Historical Society picnic

MANCHESTER -- This year the annual picnic of the Manchester Historical Society will be held at the Casablanca Motel located at the north end of Manchester Center. The picnic starts at 5:30 p.m. and is open to all, provided that you bring a dish to share for the potluck meal. Following the food and socializing, the program will begin. Adam Boyce, a composer, historian and fiddler, is a recognized authority on local traditional dance and music history of central Vermont, including fiddling and calling for square and contra dances.

He will perform at the MHS picnic at 6:30 p.m. Enjoy a summer evening in Vermont. Outdoor concert at Vets' Home

BENNINGTON -- Looking for a great way to spend time with your family? The Eagles Band and Trombone Ensemble from Pittsfield, Mass., will be performing music from Broadway and movies, to marches and patriotic tunes, at the Vermont Veterans' Home located at 325 North St., on Wednesday, Aug. 20, from 6:15-8 p.m. This outdoor concert is free and is open to the community; bring blankets or chairs to enjoy the performance.

Summer Book Club

at the Beach

GRAFTON, N.Y. -- Babcock Lake resident and Grafton Community Library Trustee, Nancy Chase, invites the Library community to the second installment of the "Summer Book Club at the Beach" at Babcock Lake Beach Gazebo at 7 p.m. August's book selection is "The $64 Tomato: How One Man Nearly Lost His Sanity, Spent a Fortune, and Endured an Existential Crisis in the Quest for the Perfect Garden." Copies are available at the library. Participants are invited to gather at the Babcock Lake Beach Gazebo shortly before 7 p.m. to have a swim and then join in a lively book discussion.

Democratic Caucus to meet

BENNINGTON -- The Democratic Town Committee of Bennington will hold a caucus for the purpose of electing nominees to stand for election as justice of the peace on the 2014 general election ballot.

The meeting will be held at 6 p.m. in the Bank North Room of the Bennington Free Library.
