Ninth annual Rock, Rattle and Drum pow-wow

ADAMS, Mass. -- The 9th annual Rock, Rattle and Drum pow wow will take place August 9 and 10 at Bowe Field, Adams Agricultural Fairgrounds. Tickets are available at the gate for $8 per adult, $5 for seniors and children 11 to 17. Children 10 and under are free. Tickets available in advance at 413-443-2481. After nine years of celebratory dance, song and drumming, this years pow wow will explode in another weekend of American Indian music, dance, education, entertainment, arts and crafts vendors and cultural festivities. The theme this year is "Living in Harmony, Fulfilling our destiny." Everyone, native and non-native, is welcome. This special event is about building and celebrating community and respecting the culture, history, and the traditions of our First Nations People. A portion of the proceeds are being distributed to the Adams Lions, Eve's Fund and One Spirit/NativeProgress.org. Bring a canned food for a local food pantry.

Family fun day benefit for Gallop To Success

MPR novice triathlon

MANCHESTER -- On Saturday, Aug. 9, Manchester Parks and Recreation will be hosting our fourth annual novice triathlon. The triathlon will include a 200-yard swim, a 5-mile bike ride, and a 2-mile run. The cost is $20 preregistered or $25 for registration on the day of the event. Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m. and the event will begin at 9 a.m. at the Manchester Parks and Recreation Pool House. Clam bake

ARLINGTON -- The American Legion Post No. 69 Arlington Annual Clam Bake begins at noon. Tickets are $30 each and include a raw bar, hamburgers and dogs and sausages.

19th Annual Clam Feed

POWNAL -- The 19th Annual Clam Feed will be held at the American Legion Pownal Post 90 on Saturday, August 9. It will begin at noon and run until 6 p.m.

There will be clams, chowder, chicken, hot dogs, hamburgers, and hot sausage. Beverages also available. There will be games of chance. No one under 21 years of age will be admitted.

Tag sale fundraiser

ADAMS, Mass. -- St. John Paul II Parish will hold its annual two-day tag sale fundraising event from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and again on Saturday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the lower hall of Notre Dame School. This year's tag sale is huge with thousands of items and books all priced to move. This event will take place rain or shine. 

Yoga Nidra Workshop

BENNINGTON -- The Yoga Place is offering a Yoga Nidra workshop from 9 to 11 a.m. at 532 Main St.

Yoga Nidra is a form of meditative self-inquiry from the teachings of yoga. It promotes deep physical, emotional and mental relaxation and healing. Regular practice not only helps resolve stress, insomnia, anxiety and depression, but can bring about profound personal transformation.

Susan Beal, who will facilitate the workshop, has had a meditation practice for 35 years and has studied many forms of meditation and spiritual practice in that time.

Norman's Attic

ARLINGTON -- St. James' Episcopal Church again presents the community-wide festival of Norman's Attic from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. More than 55 vendors from all over New England will be present, rain or shine, with a wide variety of unique items, gifts, crafts and collectibles. There will be woven items, pottery, art, jewelry, china, linens, antiques, dried flowers, home-made jams, knitwear, children's activities, and much more. The Crossover Cloggers are scheduled to perform at 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Daniel Frank, director of music at St. James', will also provide on site outdoor entertainment with a variety of musical selections at different times during the day.

There will be plenty to satisfy your palate as well with a great array of delicious foods of many different kinds, including the St. James' Grill and the very popular homemade wraps and salad booth. Finish up your meal with a delicious dessert and don't forget to make your take-home selection from the other baked goods available.

There will be printed self-guided tours of the historic St. James' cemetery and the church itself. Parishioners will be helping answer visitors' questions as well. Established in 1764, this year St. James is celebrating its 250th anniversary as a community of faith and worship.

Chicken Barbecue and tag sale

EAST ARLINGTON -- On Norman's Attic Saturday, there will be a Chicken Barbecue to be held on the lawn across from the Federated Church of East Arlington on Ice Pond Road from noon to 2 p.m. The menu for this meal that sold out last year includes barbecue chicken, corn on the cob, coleslaw, cookies, ice tea and lemonade. There will also be a large church-wide tag sale on that same day from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Methodist Church Building on the corner of Ice Pond Road and Pleasant Street with many household items, antiques, books and other treasures for sale. Volleyball tournament

HOOSICK FALLS, N.Y. -- On Saturday, the Dan Koziol and James Harrington Fund will hold its 10th annual Don and Bones Volleyball Tournament. The tournament will take place at The Sand Bar on Lyman Street. Sign-ups begin at 12:30 p.m. and cost per player is $20. Monies raised through the event provide scholarships annually to two HFCS graduating seniors as well as support to local families in need. All are welcome -- to play or visit. Run for the Roses 5k

GRAFTON, N.Y. -- Registration is now open for the 29th Annual Run for the Roses 5k Foot Race to be held at Grafton Lakes State Park. The event benefits Grafton Community Library, and includes a 2.5-mile Nature Walk and Kids' 1-mile Fun Run in addition to the USATF sanctioned 5k race.

Preregistration deadline for reduced entry fee is August 5. The Nature Walk steps off at 8 a.m., reduced entry fee is $10, day of race is $15. The 5k starts at 9 a.m., reduced entry fee is $20, day of race $25. Fun Run at 10 a.m., $8 preregistered, day of race, $10.

The first 100 pre-registered 5k runners will receive a long sleeve t-shirt.

Short sleeve tees given to all other pre-registered participants. All participants receive a free book and a rose.

Concerts at the Carriage Barn

NORTH BENNINGTON -- August 10 at 4 p.m. "Crossing Boarders" concert No. 2. "Celebrating Quarts and Quints." The second of two concerts in our "Crossing Borders" mini-series in collaboration with Music from Salem. After its Hubbard Hall performance (August 9), the concert will be encored at the Carriage Barn. The program includes string quartets by Glazunov and Mozart, and piano quintets by Faure and Thomas Oboe Lee. Performers include Marcus Placci an Sarah Kim (violins), Lila Brown (viola), Ronald Lowry (cello) and Delores Stevens (piano). $20.

Organ recital

BENNINGTON -- Donald McMahon will perform a recital at the Estey-Resig organ at Sacred Heart Saint Francis de Sales Church, 238 West Main St. The organ, an instrument of some 1,438 pipes, will sparkle and resound throughout the church with the music of Bach, Couperin, Frescobaldi, Locklair and others. There is no admission charge. All facilities are accessible to those with special needs, and parking is available.

Restorative Yoga workshop

BENNINGTON -- Come to a Restorative Yoga Workshop on Sunday, August 10 from 5:30-7 p.m. at 532 Main St.

Restorative yoga is a passive form of yoga in which bolsters, blankets and other props are used to facilitate fully supported poses for total body healing in conscious and purposeful rest. It is great practice for the overactive mind and/or body and for healing old injuries by guiding one to a place of deep relaxation and letting go.

CrossFit Basics class

BENNINGTON -- Bennington CrossFit runs CrossFit Basics every Sunday at both 10:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. CrossFit Basics is a completely free class, which is open to the public. In this class, they introduce you to the CrossFit methodology in a manner that is ideal for someone brand new to CrossFit.

Our primary focus in this class is for the participants to learn proper form and technique, while finishing each class with a short, high intensity workout. Impaired Driving checkpoint

BENNINGTON -- The Bennington Police Department will hold an Impaired Driving Checkpoint during the week of Aug. 10 to 16. Bennington Police will partner with other local law enforcement agencies for this checkpoint. Impaired driving is a serious problem that threatens all of us.
