SVC student Cervini named to president’s, Provost lists

BENNINGTON -- Kristen Cervini of Arlington, a sophomore studying criminal justice at Southern Vermont Collegehas been named to the president’s list with a 4.0 GPA and to the Provost list for earning a miniumum 3.25 GPA during the spring semester.

Cervini is president of the Japanese Culture and Anime Club, a member of Mountaineer Events Board, and an employee at Shaw’s in Manchester.

Cervini is a graduate of Boerne-Samuel V. Champion High School, Boerne, Texas, and she is the daughter of Debbie and Jack Cervini of Arlington. Area student graduates Bryant & Stratton

ALBANY, N.Y. -- Theresa Stanley of Albany, N.Y., daughter of Edward and Cindi Myers of Bennington and the late Joseph Mayer of Hoosick Falls, N.Y., was awarded the associate of applied science degree in the business and office information technology programs, cum laude, at the 157th commencement of Bryant & Stratton College on Saturday, May 3, at the Empire State Plaza Convention Center.

During the graduation ceremony, Theresa was honored as a member of "Who’s who among students in American Junior Colleges," an elite group of national outstanding campus leaders based on academic achievement, service to the community, leadership in extracurricular activities, and potential for continued success.

Boston University announces graduates

BOSTON -- Boston University awarded academic degrees to 6,321 students in May 2014. Among the graduates was Amanda M. Ranttila, of Bennington, who received a bachelor of science in therapeutic studies.

Arlington Garden Club annual scholarships awarded

ARLINGTON -- At the Awards Night at Arlington Memorial High School this year, the Arlington Garden Club was pleased to award Peyton Agresta their annual scholarship. We wish him all the best as he pursues his studies at Castleton State College in the fall.

In addition, Arlington Garden Club annually awards scholarships to students in Arlington, Sandgate or Sunderland to attend a week at Conservation Camp at Lake Bomoseen. This camp is for students age 12-14, sponsored by the Vermont Fish and Wildlife Service. Jackie La Batt, chair of the scholarship committee is pleased to announce the winners for this summer: Carter Allard, David Blay, and Isaac Sibley will learn a lot and have a lot of fun.

Local students earn degrees from The College of Saint Rose

ALBANY, N.Y. -- The College of Saint Rose announced that 1,687 students earned undergraduate and graduate degrees and certificates of advanced study as members of the Class of 2014.

Berlin resident makes dean’s list at SUNY Canton

CANTON, N.Y. -- Shaylah Morris of Berlin, N.Y. made the dean’s list for the Spring 2014 semester. Morris is a 2011 graduate of Berlin Central High School and is a SUNY Canton Nursing major.

To receive dean’s list honors, full-time students must earn at least a 3.25 GPA on a 4.0 scale.

Local student receives diploma from Norwich University

NORTHFIELD -- Dennis Michael Brooks of Bennington received a Bachelor of Science magna cum laude in Management and Accounting from Norwich University at the May 10 commencement ceremony.

Castleton College Spring 2014 president’s list recipients

CASTLETON -- The following local students were named to the Castleton College president’s list for the spring semester of the 2013-14 academic year. To qualify for this highest academic honor, the student must maintain full-time status and a semester GPA of 4.0.

Provost list at Southern Vermont College

BENNINGTON -- Mariah Baker of East Dorset has been named to the Provost list for the Spring 2014 semester at Southern Vermont College. The Provost list recognizes full-time students who have earned a minimum GPA of 3.25 during the semester.

Baker is majoring in radiologic sciences.

She is a graduate of Burr and Burton Academy and the daughter of John and Deborah Baker of East Dorset.

Local students recognized at Miss Hall’s commencement

PITTSFIELD, Mass. -- Miss Hall’s School announces that recent graduate Sophie Bellemare, of Hoosick Falls, N.Y., was recognized with honors during the school’s recently held 116th Commencement ceremonies.

Sophie, the daughter of Carla and Steven Bellemare, received a Meus Honor Stat Key, one of the school’s highest awards for leadership and citizenship.

The keys are awarded to students who possess and have displayed qualities of maturity, loyalty, genuine warmth, and respect for the principles for which the School stands.

An Honor Roll student and an active member of the Miss Hall’s community, Sophie was an MHS Admission Ambassador, Proctor, and Science Peer Tutor. She was also a four-year member of the School’s Athletic Association, serving as the association’s co-Head as a junior.

Additionally, Sophie was a member of the varsity golf and varsity soccer teams, three times receiving league all-star recognition in soccer.

She will attend Elon University in the fall.

Miss Hall’s School also announces that rising senior Emma Bullock, of North Bennington, was recognized with honors during the School’s recently held 116th Commencement ceremonies.

Emma, the daughter of Heather and John Bullock, received the Rising Distinction Award in Science, recognizing her talents and accomplishments in that discipline.

A Head’s list student, Emma is also an active member of the MHS community.

She is a member of the School’s Science Bowl team and president of the Debate Club. Emma will also serve next year as the Senior Class Secretary, as a Proctor, and as co-Head of Grace Notes, the School’s a cappella singing group. She is also a member of the School’s Theater Ensemble and the varsity cross-country team.

Additionally, Emma was inducted this spring into the School’s Chapter of the Cum Laude Society, the national organization honoring scholastic achievement at secondary schools.

McEachron graduates from medical school

On June 1, 2014, Dr. Jennifer Lynn McEachron became the first physician in her family by graduating from Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine. Dr. McEachron was also honored at the ceremony by receiving the Dedication to Primary Care Award for Excellence in Obstetrics and Gynecology.

Dr. McEachron is a graduate of Hoosick Falls Central School, class of 2006, where she was the captain of the first girls soccer state championship team. She then moved on to Binghamton University where she graduated cum laude with a degree in biology and started as goal keeper for 3 years on the NCAA Division I Binghamton Women’s Soccer team.

Dr. McEachron is beginning the next step in her training, July 1st, when she will start her four year residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip, NY on Long Island. Jen has a special interest in minimally invasive gynecologic surgery and gynecologic oncology.

Dr. McEachron became Dr. Gibbs when she married fellow LECOM 2014 graduate, Dr. Eliot Gibbs on June 14. Dr. Gibbs will also begin his residency at Good Samaritan in July in Family Medicine.

Jennifer is a daughter of Rick and Holly McEachron.

Dean’s list at The College of Saint Rose

ALBANY, N.Y. -- The College of Saint Rose announced the dean’s list for the spring 2014 semester.

Full-time students who complete a minimum of 12 credit hours and achieve a semester GPA of at least 3.5 with no grades of D, F, Incomplete or Pass/Fail are eligible for the dean’s list.
