Forest Service waives fees

BENNINGTON -- The U.S. Forest Service will waive fees at most of its day-use recreation sites on June 14 in honor of National Get Outdoors Day. Check with your local forest or grassland or on Recreation.gov to see if your destination charges a fee. Go online to find a National Forest or Grassland near you.

Helmet drive and bicycle safety check

BENNINGTON -- The Bennington Center for Restorative Justice has recently teamed up with the Bennington Cycle Club to provide local youth with a safer bicycle ride this summer. Center for Restorative Justice has a Spring Helmet Drive going on now in which families with youth in need can stop by for a helmet that has been donated. Bennington Cycle Club has been generous enough to donate to this drive some new helmets for the youth of Bennington. CRJ and the Bennington Cycle Club would also like to provide a bicycle safety check from 10 a.m. to noon. on June 14 in the parking lot of Highlander Bicycle shop, 160 Benmont Ave. This safety check is open to the public. Families will be able to come and get their bicycles checked out at no cost. Major repairs would be recommended if needed, but not provided at this date.

Chicken barbecue

Flag Day breakfast

Yoga Nidra workshop

BENNINGTON -- The Yoga Place is offering a Yoga Nidra workshop on June 14 from 9-11 a.m. at 532 Main St.

Yoga Nidra is a form of meditative self-inquiry from the teachings of yoga. It promotes deep physical, emotional and mental relaxation and healing. Regular practice not only helps resolve stress, insomnia, anxiety and depression, but can bring about profound personal transformation.

Spring Bash at Elks Lodge

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. -- The North Adams Prom Committee is happy to announce that they will host their annual spring semi-formal dance party on June 14 at the Elks Lodge. The theme is NAMA Prom: Moonshine Madness.

The ev ent will be from 7 p.m. to 1:30 a.m., with a cocktail hour kicking off the night. The cocktail hour will include hors d'oeuvres by Lickety Split, live rock-flavored bluegrass music, and moonshine-infused snow cones. At 8 p.m., the Berkshire County Line Dancers will offer line dance instruction in the Elks ballroom. There will be a photo "booth" by photographer Stephanie Rose and an energetic dance floor that will be fueled by the tunes of Revel Beat Sound System. Admission to the NAMA Prom is $10 at the door.

Flag Day at the Bennington Battle Monument

BENNINGTON -- Betsy Ross herself will be at the Monument to present an illustrated program for children and adults. Activities will include designing your own flag and information on flag protocol. The program will take place on June 14 from 1 to 3 p.m., on the grounds of the Monument. This program is free and open to the public.

St. Peter's silent auction

BENNINGTON -- St. Peter's Episcopal Church will be holding a silent auction on June 14 from 7 to 9 p.m. St. Peter's is at the corner of School Street and Pleasant Street.

Tickets will be $5. For your ticket you will be treated to a fabulous dessert bar and beverages.

There will be tables laden with many beautiful items, some local treasures, some adventures and activities to bid on. There will be tickets to local theatre groups, local fitness centers, Yoga centers and much more. You may place your bids until 8:45 p.m. and at that time The Master of Ceremonies will start announcing the winners. Sit back, have a treat and wait for your name to be called. Strawberry festival fundraiser

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -- The Second Congregational Church will be holding its Annual Strawberry Festival on June 14 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

It will be held at the church on 81 Hancock Road. There will be Lunch Sandwiches and beverages and Fresh Strawberry Shortcake Deluxe.

The church ladies will be offering a variety of homemade sandwiches with your choice of bread.

Other tables include a Chinese Auction, games, crafts and a jewelry table. There will be a tag sale and bake sale, and plants, and many other vendors.

Festival music will be heard from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the outside parking area.

Corn Crib public meeting

NORTH BENNINGTON -- Interested in the history of the Mile-Around woods and the surrounding landscape? Have you wondered what that long, thin structure next to the Mosely Bridge is? Want to know more about preservation efforts and new ideas about the farm structures in the landscape?

The Fund for North Bennington will be holding an informational session, informal conversation and open house about the restoration of this gorgeous agricultural relic at 4 p.m. at the Left Bank, 5 Main St.

Serenata Italiana

BENNINGTON -- On Saturday, June 14, at 8 p.m., the Bennington Center for the Arts will host Serenata Itala, a concert featuring music ranging from powerful and familiar arias by Verdi and Leoncavallo, to popular songs by Tosti, Donaudy and others.

The stars of the evening will include soprano Rachele Schmiege whose voice was hailed by the Daily Gazette as "lustrous, agile, supply and soar[ing]" for her work with Hubbard Hall Opera Theater's La Traviata, and Chris Nelson who has recently been praised as a "stand out" tenor with "a clear ringing tone" by Forbes Film. The quartet is rounded out by mezzo-soprano Brooke Larimer known by the Boston Phoenix as the "impressive singing actor" with the wine-dark voice and internationally acclaimed baritone Patrick McNally who played Figaro to great success with Hubbard Hall Opera Theater this past summer. The concert will be accompanied by Tristan Cano on piano. Tickets cost $15.

Bennington Farmers' Market

BENNINGTON -- The Bennington Farmers' Market will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Riverwalk Park on Depot Street. Join our region's farmers and producers for the best in fresh, local plants, vegetables, cheeses, meats, eggs, prepared foods, specialty items and crafts. The Buzz Saw Boys will provide music for the market. Mary Chambers will offer face painting under the kids' tent.

Fundraising dinner

BENNINGTON -- Unitarian Universalist Fellowship is sponsoring a fundraising dinner open to the community to provide support to LGBT individuals in Uganda on Saturday, June 14, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. The suggested donation will be $15 and $5 for the first child, free for additional children. There will be a menu of tasty African foods from several traditions. Some entertainment will be on hand and Rev. Mark Kiyimba, a UU minister, and activist for LGBT rights and HIV/AIDS victims in Uganda, will be here to speak.

Bike Ride fundraiser

SALEM, N.Y. -- The Salem Volunteer Fire Department Inc. will be hosting The Salem Tour de Flame Fighters, a bike ride fundraiser to help fund its new firehouse. BENNINGTON -- The Bennington Historical Society hosts a discussion of Colonel William Marsh, "Vermont Patriot and Loyalist," presented by noted authors and historians Doctors Jennifer and Wilson Brown.
