BENNINGTON -- A group of TE Connectivity employees recently presented The Hiland Hall School with a check for $5,000, which will be used towards a Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) initiative. The school invited the TE employees to a luncheon with the students, staff, and school technology committee at which the TE check was presented. To add to the festivities, the TE employees brought in homemade cookies for the kids and arranged a scavenger hunt at the school.
Inspired by the innovative learning environment at Hiland Hall, combined with the children’s self-motivation and passion for knowledge; a TE volunteer team of 12 employees formed last fall. The TE employees were able to secure the grant through the TE Connectivity Foundation to support their efforts and fund this initiative. Targeted use of the funding includes securing reliable high speed internet access, funding online technical resources for engineering and technology training and software, and supporting a student MATHCOUNTS team with regards to online math study resources, etc.
In addition, TE employee classroom training offered to the students includes microscope use for research projects, advanced use of 3D modeling design software, fiber optic telecommunication concepts, and engineering mechanics (gears, levers, etc.).
Hiland Hall School is a Progressive school with students age 4 -14. The TE Connectivity division in North Bennington consists of a fiber optic cable research and development facility, as well as a fiber optic cable manufacturing plant. The TE volunteer team is being coordinated by TE Research and Development Engineer Ken Nardone. The Hiland Hall school volunteer technology committee, in consultation with the Hiland Hall teaching staff, has been fully engaged in creating and implementing technology visions for the school.
