Talk on the importance of self-reflection
MANCHESTER -- Philosophy scholar Susanne Claxton will discuss how self-examination contributes to a richer life, in a talk at First Congregational Church at 7 p.m. Her talk, "The Examined Life," is part of the Vermont Humanities Council's First Wednesdays lecture series and is free and open to the public. The Manchester series is hosted by the Mark Skinner Library.
Touching on the famous proclamation from Socrates, "The unexamined life is not worth living," Claxton will explore what constitutes the examined life and how we may best pursue it.
Thrift shop open
JOHNSONVILLE, N.Y. -- The Thrift Shop at Christ United Methodist Church just south off Route 67 in Johnsonville, N.Y., is open every Wednesday from 9 a.m. to noon. Most clothing items are priced at $1 per bag.
Gentle yoga for cancer survivors
BENNINGTON -- Gentle Yoga for Cancer Survivors meets weekly, on Wednesdays from 6 to 7 p.m., in Conference Room C, at SVMC. This group is sponsored by the Cancer Center and is free to all participants. One can join at any time and at any stage in one's treatment or recovery regime. Ladies Golf League back for summer
BENNINGTON -- The Ladies Golf League starts Wednesday, June 4. Welcome back golfers from previous years and new players to join either the 18-hole or 9-hole group. Register in the Golf Shop, before Wednesday if possible, to expedite the process. The first morning of the League can get hectic.
New developments: Sandy Stevens, physical trainer and massage therapist will offer a Golf Stretch Class starting at 7:45 a.m. for 30 minutes. Class is available to both ladies leagues (18-hole and 9-hole). Cost is $5 per session. It will take place in the 19th Green. Bring exact change or make checks payable to Sandy Stevens.

Pool open at country club
BENNINGTON -- Mount Anthony Country Club pool is open for the summer; hours 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Lifeguards will be on duty on weekends until school ends, and daily starting June 25 through Labor Day.
All members and their guests must sign in with the lifeguard on duty daily. If no lifeguard on duty, check in at the bar. Guest fee is $7 per person per day. Swimming lessons at Mount Anthony Country Club this summer: visit them online.
