Thefts and burglaries
POWNAL -- Between 11 p.m. on May 20 and 4:30 a.m. on May 21, one or more individuals entered and stole items from unlocked vehicles on at least seven different residences located on Barber Pond Road, Niles School Road, Middle Pownal Road and Washing Brook Road.
Garages were entered and items were taken from them at at least two of those residences.

Driving under the influence/possession
POWNAL -- On May 24 at approximately 9:40 a.m., the Vermont State Police stopped the driver of a 1997 Jeep Cherokee on North Pownal Road for a minor motor vehicle violation. According to a police report, the vehicle's operator, Robert Trites of Bennington, showed signs of alcohol impairment.
He was arrested for the suspicion of driving under the influence. Trites was ticketed for possessing a small amount of marijuana. He was processed at and released from the Shaftbury State Police Barracks with a citation to appear in Bennington County Criminal Court on June 9.
SANDGATE -- On May 24 at approximately 12:40 a.m., Vermont State Police responded to a single-vehicle crash on Wuerslin Road. Heather Blake, who was operating a 2014 Volkswagen Passat, lost control of her car on a dirt road with potholes, and crashed into a tree, police reported. The vehicle sustained severe front end damage.
Blake was transported to Southwestern Vermont Medical Center and released with no injuries. Police noted that the crash is still under investigation for the suspicion of Blake being impaired from the use of alchohol.
BRUNSWICK, N.Y. -- On May 16, New York State Police located, arrested and processed 33-year-old Jessica Fisher of Hoosick Falls for assault in the third degree. According to a police report, Fisher arrived at the home of the 37-year-old victim Friday afternoon when she was sitting on her porch. Although it is unclear to police how it started, an argument turned into a physical altercation in which Fisher struck the victim several times in the face.
Fisher was released with a ticket, due back for a later court date.
