Vermont Veterans Fund seeks grant proposals
MONTPELIER -- The Vermont Office of Veterans Affairs and the Vermont Veterans Fund Committee are accepting grant proposals from this year's fund. The Veteran's Fund was established in 2010 and provides financial assistance to organizations supporting veterans.
Over the last two years fund grants have supported homeless veteran transition programs, peer counseling, emergency assistance with rent and utilities, assurance that no veteran in Vermont need die alone and to provide funeral honors for those who have passed on.
A committee representing the Governor's Veterans Advisory Council, Veteran Service Organizations, VA Medical and Benefits, the National Guard, Vermont Department of Labor and Agency of Human Services review all applications in early summer and make grants. "This committee really works overtime, as volunteers to try to distribute grant money fairly and effectively. In 2013 they made grants to seven organizations totaling $40,000," said Reed.
"Unfortunately that meant they had to turn down several other applications for lack of money. They would love to do more, with everyone's help." For more information on the Vermont Veteran's Fund, or to request a proposal packet contact Reed by email at Richard.email@example.com or call the office at 802-828-3379.
