Mother Myrick’s raises $388 for Race for the Cure
MANCHESTER -- Manchester’s Mother Myrick’s Confectionery’s Decorate a Cake for Mom on Mother’s Day fundraiser has raised $388 for Vermont-New Hampshire Komen for the Cure. The event invites kids to decorate a Mother Myrick’s cake for their mothers. "It’s just a lot of fun, and it’s all for a good cause," said Jacki Baker, who owns Mother Myrick’s with her husband, Ron. "The kids have a blast, they’re very proud of their work and come up with some truly amazing cakes, and the moms really love their gifts. The fact that their efforts help to fight breast cancer is the icing on the cake. Literally." Mother Myrick’s Retail store is at 4367 Main St.; for more information, visit www.mothermyricks.com. PAVE supporter receives award
BENNINGTON -- Project Against Violent Encounters is honored to award Nick Monte of the Village Chocolate Shoppe with the PAVE Supporter and Recognition Award for 2013. Linda Campbell, executive director of PAVE, presented him with the award at a recognition dinner held in his honor on May 4 at the home of Paula Sherman, president of the board of directors.
Monte is a longstanding supporter of PAVE, helping with fundraising efforts by donations of chocolate, time and expertise as a chocolatier. Recently he created the world’s largest peanut butter cup, dividing the 229.
Without his help and the help of countless other volunteers and contributors, PAVE would not be able to provide the 24-hour services which it offers to Bennington County families. From the first contact on the hotline to courtroom advocacy, emergency shelter, transitional housing, and supervised visitation for children of non-residential parents, PAVE’s extraordinary staff assists victims of domestic and sexual violence.
In 2013, PAVE assisted 700 people in need. PAVE provided 2,370 nights of shelter and assisted families’ transition from emergency to stable housing. PAVE provided a safe environment for 58 children to visit with non-residential parents and offered a parenting program to parents and children. PAVE provided educational programs to approximately 3,000 teachers, parents and children in Bennington County.
