SHAFTSBURY -- The SCAC Board of Trustees are pleased to announce the appointment of Linda Huebner to the position of executive director.
"Linda brings a wealth of experience in the field of animal welfare and we are looking forward to her leadership," stated Board President Kim Gould. "Her background includes extensive work with a number non-profit organizations and she has served on the board of the New England Federation of Humane Societies for eight years."
As Deputy Director, Advocacy, for the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (MSPCA) for six years, she was responsible for legislative and policy issues, lobbying and working with legislators and their staff. She handled interview requests, wrote monthly articles for animal publications, spoke frequently on wildlife and other animal-related issues and worked with students, interns, volunteers and advocates to help them support the MSPCA’s mission.
As the Executive Director of Conway Area Humane Society in Conway, N.H., she supervised a staff of 19, served as liaison to the Board of Directors, and was the primary spokesperson. While there she was responsible for creating, modifying and implementing policies and procedures. She worked with local towns on animal control contracts and disaster preparedness.
Prior to that position, Huebner was Regional Program Manager for the Humane Society of the United States.
In this capacity she worked on animal related legislation and regulations with New England state legislatures and agencies, wrote articles for the Humane Society newsletter, website and Animal Sheltering Magazine, worked with animal shelters on all aspects of animal sheltering and reviewed current procedures and facilities.
She assisted with animal cruelty cases (hoarding, neglect, puppy mills) and spay/neuter clinics. She worked closely with the media, participating in interviews, call-in shows and writing opinion pieces and was a guest lecturer in college classes on human/wildlife conflict issues, natural resource policies and other animal concerns.
In addition to her animal related experience, Heubner was Senior Clinical Data Manager for Abt Associates Inc., in Cambridge, Mass., and worked earlier as Clinical Data Coordinator at SmithKline Beecham Consumer Healthcare in New Jersey.
She earned a bachelor of science degree in Animal Science from Cook College, Rutgers University, and a Master of Science degree in Animals and Public Policy from Tufts University School of Veterinary Medicine. She did coursework toward a Ph.D. in Human Dimensions of Wildlife Management at the University of Massachusetts in Amherst, Mass. She holds a Certificate in Executive Leadership from Humane Society University.
Huebner resides in West Halifax, Vt., with her Doberman named Ladybug.
