Chili Challenge fundraiser
MANCHESTER -- The town of Manchester, Manchester Parks and Recreation Department, and the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Manchester, announce the 22nd Annual Chili Challenge to be held from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Fraternal Order of Eagles.
The Chili Challenge is an evening to showcase your chili, macaroni and cheese and/or your wing recipe or to come taste and vote on your favorite chili, mac and cheese, or wings. Restaurants and individual chefs have long enjoyed this evening to promote their establishment while at the same time assisting Manchester and the Manchester Parks and Recreation Department in their fund raising efforts. This year all proceeds will go towards the 4th of July fireworks and the Manchester summer street fests.
Admission is $6 per person.

Thrift shop open at church
JOHNSONVILLE, N.Y. -- The Thrift Shop at Christ United Methodist Church just south off Route 67, is open every Wednesday from 9 a.m. to noon. Most clothing items are priced at $1 per bag.
Gentle yoga for cancer survivors
BENNINGTON -- Gentle Yoga for Cancer Survivors meets weekly, on Wednesdays from 6 to 7 p.m., in Conference Room C, at SVMC.
BENNINGTON -- Enjoy a gentle yoga class free of charge, led by Laurae Coburn, Ph.D RYT every Wednesday evening at The Bennington School, 192 Fairview St. from 5:30 to 6:45 p.m.
Blood drive at SVC
BENNINGTON -- Southern Vermont College will host an American Red Cross Blood Drive from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. in the Mountaineer Athletic Center gymnasium. Donors are required to be at least 17 years old and weigh at least 110 pounds. The college invites and encourages community members to participate in the blood drive.

Food experimentalist speaks
WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -- Food experimentalist Dave Arnold will visit Williams College to deliver a talk and demonstration on food science. The event, "Science and technology in the kitchen" will take place at 8 p.m. in the Bronfman Science Center Auditorium. It is free and open to the public.
Preschool story hour
BENNINGTON -- A preschool story hour from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., will be held for children 3 to 5 upstairs in the Rotary Meeting Room at Bennington Free Library. Bennington Monument opens April 19
BENNINGTON -- The Bennington Battle Monument opens on Saturday, April 19, in time for Easter Weekend. To kick off the season opening of Vermont's tallest structure, an egg hunt for children ages 12 and under will start at 10 a.m., followed by a second egg hunt at 10 a.m. on Easter Sunday.
Some of the eggs will contain free passes to the monument observation level that is accessible by elevator. Otherwise, admission to the monument is $5 for adults and $1 for children throughout the season. The monument and gift shop will be open every day from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. through Oct. 31.
The 306-foot monument is located in Old Bennington at 15 Monument Circle.
