Vermont Open at Stratton

STRATTON -- Stratton Mountain and The Washed Up Cup will present The Vermont Open, an event designed for snowboarders by snowboarders.

There will be more than $20,000 in prize money. The competition is open to all snowboarders and is designed for amateurs, juniors, pros and snowboarding's legends to compete in the same arena.

Registration begins at 6 p.m. on Friday, March 7, and again from 8 to 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 8.

Faculty lecture series

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -- During February and March, Williams College is holding its annual Faculty Lecture Series. The aim of the series is to present big ideas beyond disciplinary boundaries. The remaining lectures of the series will occur on March 6, 13, and 20.

All lectures will be held at 4:15 p.m. in Wege Auditorium, Thompson Chemistry, with a reception to follow in Schow Atrium. The lectures are free and open to the public.

On March 6, Associate Professor of Religious Studies Jason Ananda Josephson will talk about "Dialectic of Darkness: The Magical Foundations of Critical Theory."

Informational session

POWNAL -- Nancy from BROC will be available from 10 a.m. to noon at the Solomon Wright Public Library on Main Street to discuss health care and/or to arrange an appointment to apply for coverage. Remember that open enrollment ends on March 15 in order to get covered by April 1.

Pownal Legion post bingo

POWNAL -- American Legion Post 90 holds bingo on Thursdays. Doors open at 5 p.m., and bingo starts at 6:30 p.m., promptly. There will be two progressive games. A snack bar will be available.

Bennington Free Clinic

BENNINGTON -- The Bennington Free Clinic is held each Thursday starting at 6 p.m. This clinic is for uninsured people 18 years of age or older, who would otherwise fall through the cracks of our fractured health care system. It is located in the First Baptist Church at 601 Main St. Call 802-447-3700 for an appointment to be seen.

Monthly meeting

BENNINGTON -- The Greater Bennington Peace & Justice Center will hold its March meeting on Thursday at 6:15 p.m. at the UU Meetinghouse on School Street. We will begin with a potluck and follow with the business agenda at 7 p.m. Please join us.

Corrections

READSBORO -- Cherie Giddings defeated Larry Hopkins for a three year seat on the School Board. An article in Wednesday's edition about the election contained an error.

SUNDERLAND -- The Sunderland town meeting story published Wednesday containted a mistake: The school tax rate is going from $1.19 to $1.26.
