UCS promotes Anna Mattison to emergency services manager

BENNINGTON -- United Counseling Service is proud to announce the promotion of Anna Mattison to emergency services manager. Mattison has more than 25 years of experience at UCS helping people in crisis situations, and recently served as the interim emergency services manager.

Mattison will work in UCS’ Battelle crisis center, where previous to her management role; she served as the emergency services police liaison.

"Anna Mattison brings with her an incredible amount of professional experience as the emergency services manager, a position where she will directly help people in the community who are experiencing a crisis situation," said Victor Martini, director of community rehabilitation and emergency services. "She is a valuable resource to the community and will help those in need."

"Helping people in the community has been an extremely rewarding experience throughout my time working at UCS, and I’m looking forward to enhancing the emergency services we provide to help people when they need it most," said Mattison.

A 1990 graduate of Southern Vermont College, Mattison started working at UCS in the Community Rehabilitation and Treatment division as a case manager for individuals who were chronically mentally ill. She has served as the crisis intervention trainer for over seven years, and acts as a police liaison for the agency due to her previous experience as a part-time officer with the Manchester Police Department.

BENNINGTON -- The Vermont Chapter of the American Institute of Architects elected Gary Corey of Centerline Architects & Planners as the Treasurer/Secretary. Gary is the owner and president of Centerline Architects & Planners, P.C. in Bennington. Centerline provides a full-range of planning and architectural design services to residential, commercial, and educational clients throughout Vermont and the surrounding areas. Since opening in 1989, Centerline has received numerous design awards for their projects; including the most recent award for a private farm in Salem, N.Y. Corey graduated cum laude with a bachelor of architecture Degree from Kansas State University and received his associate’s degree with honors in architectural and building technologies from Vermont Technical College in Randolph. During his undergraduate years he was selected for membership in the Phi Kappa Phi Scholastic Honor Society and the Tau Sigma Delta Honor Society of Architecture.

Frigid temperatures don’t stop Orvis employees from
volunteering for Habitat

MANCHESTER -- Wednesday, Jan. 24, started with minus 17 temperatures, but the frigid weather did not deter a group of 10 Orvis employees who volunteered to work on the two homes that Habitat is currently building on Jennifer Lane. Orvis employees helped paint the interior walls and prepped the window trim for painting.

Orvis is a long-term supporter of Habitat’s work in Bennington County. This fall, Orvis contributed $2,000 to purchase building supplies.

In addition to helping to build, Orvis employees, such as Eric Green, and Matt Bykowski, have helped with website design and resource development.

Board President Monica Knorr, said, "We are very grateful to Orvis for their strong commitment to the greater Manchester community and support of Habitat, in particular." Orvis is a worldwide leader in making distinctive clothing, quality home furnishings, gifts, and dog products, and is a leader of the Manchester business community, making a difference in the quality of life for hard-working area residents. Bennington Health and Rehabilitation Centers earns ‘Deficiency Free’ State Survey

BENNINGTON -- Bennington Health and Rehabilitation Center, a member of the Revera Inc. family, is pleased to announce that the center has been deemed "deficiency free," after a recent state health survey and inspection. An inspection team from the State of Vermont has awarded the center high marks for quality care.

"This is a real tribute to the commitment and teamwork of our staff," said Executive Director Wendy Beatty. "We are all extremely pleased that the state inspectors recognized the high quality of care that we provide to our patients, as well as the caliber of experience and expertise demonstrated by our staff."

Federal guidelines mandate that all skilled nursing facilities in Vermont undergo an annual inspection. Inspection teams generally spend several days observing all facets of the center’s operations, paying particular attention to quality of care, quality of life and resident rights.

"We were surveyed on hundreds of different conditions," said Beatty, "so to receive a "deficiency-free" rating is truly a high honor."

With the success of the center’s most recent survey, the team at Bennington Health and rehabilitation is also looking to expand its workforce, actively recruiting qualified nurses that are interested in becoming part of a team focused on quality outcomes and an exceptional patient experience.
