Pownal bingo at Legion
POWNAL -- The American Legion Post 90 in Pownal holds bingo on Thursdays. Doors open at 5 p.m., bingo starts at 6:30 p.m. promptly. There will be two progressive games. A snack bar will be available.
Bennington Free Clinic
BENNINGTON -- The Bennington Free Clinic is held each Thursday starting at 6 p.m. This clinic is for uninsured people 18 years of age or older, who would otherwise fall through the cracks of our fractured health care system. It is located in the First Baptist Church at 601 Main St. Call 802-447-3700 for an appointment to be seen.
Faculty lecture series
WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -- During February and March, Williams College will sponsor its annual Faculty Lecture Series. The aim of the series is to present big ideas beyond disciplinary boundaries. The six lectures of the series will occur on Feb. 13, 20, 27, and March 6, 13, and 20. All lectures will be held at 4:15 p.m. in Wege Auditorium, Thompson Chemistry, with a reception to follow in Schow Atrium. The lectures are free and open to the public.
The first lecture in the series is scheduled for Feb. 13. Ngonidzashe Munemo, associate professor of political science and chair of the international studies program, will deliver a talk titled "Elite Games, Institutional Choice, and Stability in Post-Reform Africa.
Activities for children at the Bennington Museum
BENNINGTON -- ABCs Kicks-off the Year with "Happy Birthday, George Washington!" At 1:30 p.m., Bennington Museum's ABCs program presents Happy Birthday, George Washington! Celebrating President's Day with a tribute to America's first president, participants will look at and talk about the Leroy Williams painting "Prisoners Taken at Bennington Battle, August 16, 1777."
After discussing gray-haired fashions of the 1770s, enjoy stories about the life of George Washington, have your portraits taken in full Washingtonesque regalia, make birthday cards for the president, and even enjoy a celebratory red, white and blue snack in his honor.
Museum ABCs is a story hour that takes place once each month in the galleries of the Bennington Museum. Created especially for children ages 3 to 5, their parents and caregivers, each monthly program includes stories about the selected topic, visits to galleries in the Bennington Museum to observe and talk about an actual piece(s) of art, and an art or craft activity. All children must be accompanied by at least one adult. Free and registration is not required.
Stroke support group
NORTH ADAMS, Mass. -- Northern Berkshire Healthcare's Stroke Support Group will meet at the Spitzer Center, on Ashland Street, at noon. The stroke support group is free and open to those who are recovering from a stroke, family members, and caregivers of patients who have had a stroke. Space is limited. Long Trail School trip fundraiser
MANCHESTER -- Due to the forecast of inclement weather on Feb. 5, the LTS 8th grade Montreal trip fundraiser at Sherrie's Cafe in Manchester was rescheduled for today from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. The breakfast-for-dinner menu costs only $10 per person. Diners will choose from vegetable and 3-cheese quiche; steak and scrambled eggs; or French toast topped with fruit. Each meal includes a side of bacon, sausage or ham, and a maple rice pudding dessert. Make reservations now by phoning 802-362-3468; take-out is available during service times. BCRC puppet workshop
NORTH ADAMS, Mass. -- Berkshire Cultural Resource Center a puppet workshop at 6 p.m. in the North Adams Puppet Lab, 107 Main St. This workshop will include the cast of the "Chronicles of Rose" puppet production, which is part this season's MCLA Presents! Inaugural Puppet Fest.
At this workshop, North Adams puppeteer David Lane will offer a chance to explore techniques for articulation, breath and character, using simple, directly manipulated puppets. Lane will bring all of the CoR puppets to this workshop, and give a hands-on presentation on how to bring a puppet to life. No experience is required.
