Bennington Free Clinic
BENNINGTON -- The Bennington Free Clinic is held each Thursday starting at 6 p.m. This clinic is for uninsured people 18 years of age or older, who would otherwise fall through the cracks of our fractured health care system. Chamber guest speaker
WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -- The Williamstown Chamber of Commerce announces the first speaker for its Educational Speaker Series for 2014.
At 8 a.m., the Williamstown Chamber of Commerce and the Orchards Hotel will sponsor "Small Business: Challenges, Growth and Strategies for Today" in the ballroom at the Orchards Hotel. Keith Girouard, regional director of the Berkshire Regional Office of the Massachusetts Small Business Development Center Network, will present a one-hour interactive presentation.
It will include national economic dynamics and trends and how they translate into local opportunities. Girouard will offer recommendations on strategies for success, "what's hot trends" and sources for research and trend spotting.
The event is free for members of the Williamstown Chamber of Commerce and $5 for non-members. A light breakfast will be provided. Reservations are required by Feb. 3.

BENNINGTON -- It's never too early to begin a conversation about the type of care and treatment each person wants to have at the end of life.
The Visiting Nurse Association & Hospice of SVHC will host a discussion designed to help people begin to have the conversation.
Dr. Allen Hutcheson and Elizabeth Fredland, a local primary care physician and medical director of the hospice program, and a licensed social worker with hospice, respectively, will host the discussion at 2 p.m. at the Bennington Free Library.
Hutcheson and Fredland will lead participants through preparing for the end of life in a non-confrontational style that engages the audience. The program also comes with an easy-to-understand booklet to help participants guide their own discussions at home.

GREENWICH, N.Y. -- The Friends of the Greenwich Library's First Thursday Boomerang Book store in the Basement will resume from 4 to 7:30 p.m., This month's special is for the young and young-at-heart: "Lots and lots of Manga."
All proceeds from First Thursday Boomerang Sales go toward library programs and materials.
Berlin School Board roundtable meeting
BERLIN, N.Y. -- The Berlin Board of Education is interested in pursuing use of its various school facilities by community residents.
As the board plans for the 2014-2015 school budget, its wants to hear from residents and invite them to participate in a roundtable discussion.
This informational meeting will be held in the middle school/high school library. Ideas generated by community members will be used to determine interests and possible future continuing education program offerings.

Southshire Roller Derby
BENNINGTON -- After seven years of commuting to Albany, N.Y., Northampton, Mass., and Keene, N.H., Pownal resident Amy Moore has started a flat track roller derby league, Southshire Roller Derby.
Open to men and women over 18 years of age, roller derby is a full contact sport played on quad roller skates that is fast-paced and highly strategic.
Orientation for new members will be held at the Community College of Vermont, Thursday, Feb. 6, at 7 p.m. in room 215. Skating experience is not required as Southshire Roller Derby will train people how to skate then continue training the skills required to compete or officiate flat track roller derby.
Southshire Roller Derby has a limited amount of gear available to lend to new skaters on a first come, first served basis.
Grafton Community Library e-books explained program
GRAFTON, N.Y. -- On Thursday at 6 p.m. learn the ins and outs of finding, downloading, and reading or listening to e-books and audio content on your E-Reader. Bring your own e-reader down to learn all about how it works. A program with Jo Ann Benedetti from the Upper Hudson Library System. This event will be held in the library. Spaces are limited.

NYS 5-Hour prelicensing course
HOOSICK FALLS, N.Y. -- The New York 5-hour prelicensing course, needed to obtain a New York driver's license, will be offered at the Hoosick Falls Central School. Registration begins that evening (no pre-registration) in the High School office, from 4:30 to 5 p.m. Class begins promptly at 5 p.m. A valid learner's permit and $35 check or correct cash is required.
