Diabetes Support Group
NORTH ADAMS, Mass. -- REACH for Community Health will offer a free diabetes support group that will meet on the third Saturday of every month at noon. Meetings will be held in the ground floor conference room near the North Adams Regional Hospital Cafeteria.
The first meeting will be Saturday, Jan. 18, from noon to 1 p.m. The topic will be "Diagnosing Diabetes." Registered dietitians Kristin Irace and Melissa Davis will discuss different topics at each meeting. Attendees are encouraged to bring a healthy lunch or purchase lunch in the NARH Cafeteria. Healthy schools seminar
MANCHESTER -- A seminar, "Healthy Schools: The Hidden Component of Teaching and Learning," will be presented Saturday, Jan. 18, from 6 to 7:15 p.m at Northshire Bookstore.
Attendees will learn how to use communication skills to establish interpersonal trust; how to build a collaborative team; how to listen to what is said and not said; how to incorporate multiple perspectives.

French Toast Fly In
BENNINGTON -- The Bennington Sport Flying Club EAA Chapter 1375, and New England Airmotive are sponsoring a French Toast Fly In at William H. Morse State Airport on Saturday, Jan. 18, from 10 a.m. to noon.
The event is open to anyone who is interested in aviation. There will be French Toast, butter, bacon, Vermont Maple Syrup from the Horst Maple Farm in Bennington, hot chocolate and coffee.
Donations will be accepted for the Local EAA Chapter. Evans News has donated free Maple Drops (maple candy) to the event. CAT-TV will be setting up a photo booth and will be filiming a documentary. Pilots have RSVPed from Maine, New York, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Vermont and New Hampshire. Rain date: Jan. 25.

Greenwich Food Buying Club seeks members
GREENWICH, N.Y -- If you prefer to eat organic food but can't always stomach the prices, you may be interested in the Greenwich Food Buying Club, a club to access non-perishable organic foods at near wholesale prices. With everyone contributing a few hours of work, our buying club can pass on big savings to members.
The next order goes out at the end of January, so the deadline for individual members to place orders is Jan. 25. We only plan to order two or three times in 2014.

BENNINGTON -- The Bennington Farmers' Market returns to the First Baptist Church on Saturday, Jan. 18, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Pick up locally grown produce, dairy products, eggs, and meats; baked goods, jams and maple syrup; and lots of arts and crafts. GRAFTON, N.Y. -- High school seniors attending public, private school or who are home schooled, and are residents of Grafton who will be graduating this year are invited to apply for The Ethel Simmons Memorial Award. This award of $300 is given to the applicant who submits the best essay about some aspect of Grafton's history and his or her relationship to it.
The award is presented annually by the Grafton Community Library and the Grafton Historical Society in memory of Ethel N. Simmons, a native of Grafton and, for many years a Grafton teacher, librarian and the town historian. Call Anne at 518-235-8317 for assistance.
