Elks hosts bingo

BENNINGTON -- Every Monday, the Bennington Elks hosts bingo. There will be a $1,000 jackpot and 31 games for $13. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and bingo starts at 7 p.m. The Bennington Elks is located at 125 Washington Ave.

BENNINGTON -- The Bennington Free Clinic has added Monday hours, in addition to its Thursday schedule. It will be open from 10 a.m. to noon at the First Baptist Church, 601 Main St. Call for an appointment, 447-3700. Drop-ins will not be seen.

Introduction to Judaism class

BENNINGTON -- This 10-week class, taught by Rabbi Jarah Greenfield, will expose participants to the breadth and depth of Judaism and engage with core ideas, debates, and concerns of the Jewish people. Participants will gain knowledge and skills that will help them participate in Jewish life and build a personal Jewish practice if they choose. The class is geared toward this without prior Jewish learning, whatever Jewish, non-Jewish, or considering conversation to Judaism. There is no fee for the course but book purchase is required. Multiple Myeloma support group to meet

BENNINGTON -- The Multiple Myeloma Networking Group for the Southwestern Vermont Region (including the northern Berkshires and eastern New York) will hold a support group meeting on Tuesday, Dec. 17, 6-8 p.m., in the Nichols Christian Education Building at the First Baptist Church, 601 Main St. Interested patients, caregivers, family members and friends are encouraged to join us! BENNINGTON -- The sudSSpirit Bereavement Support Group will hold its monthly meeting on Tuesday Dec. 17 at 6 p.m. at the Bennington Free Library. Gift Wrapping Fundraiser

BENNINGTON -- Monument Elementary parents and staff will hold a Holiday Gift Wrapping Fundraiser from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. No time to wrap? Don't like to wrap? Bring your gifts and let them do it for you. Prices range from $1 for a small gift, $2 for a medium gift and $3 for larger gifts. Fundraiser will be held in the Monument School Gym located at 66 Main St. All proceeds benefit Monument Elementary.

MAUHS bands Winter Concert

BENNINGTON -- The MAUHS bands directed by Marjorie Rooen, will present a Winter Concert on Thursday, Dec. 19th at 7 p.m. in the MAU Auditorium. The Concert will feature the MAU Marching Band, Concert Band and Jazz Band. Admission is free. Donations of non-perishable food items will be collected at the door to help support our local food shelves.

Bennington Free Clinic

BENNINGTON -- The Bennington Free Clinic is held each Thursday starting at 6 p.m. This clinic is for uninsured people 18 years of age and older, who would otherwise fall through the cracks of our fractured health care system. Bennington Free Clinic and Vermont Health Connect

BENNINGTON -- We will be making appointments for folks wishing to know more about Vermont Health Connect, and to sign up on Mondays and Thursdays.

The Bennington Free Clinic is providing free assistance to individuals, families and small businesses who have questions about the new Vermont insurance system, which was developed as part of the federal Affordable Care Act. A team of 10 trained Navigators is available to answer questions and guide consumers through the enrollment process.

Starting on Jan. 1, 2014, all people in Vermont will be required to have health insurance, either through an employer or through the new online insurance marketplace, "Vermont Health Connect." The open enrollment period began on Oct. 1, 2013. Individuals and families will need to sign up for a VHC insurance plan by Dec. 15, for coverage to start on Jan. 1, 2014. There are different sign-up deadlines for small businesses.

Navigators are available by appointment at the following times: Every Monday, 10 a.m. to noon; every Thursday, 3:30 to 5:30 p.m.; and the third Monday of each month from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Other times may be available upon request. The Elf Express returns to Manchester

MANCHESTER -- The Manchester Lions Club announces the return of the "Elf Express," featuring Christopher Pop-In-Kins. This Holiday train ride was such a success last year, the Lions decided to make it a yearly event. The second annual Elf Express will depart r.k. Miles Depot Station in Manchester Center on Saturday, Dec. 21, and Sunday, Dec. 22, and take its riders on a one hour journey through the Green Mountains of Southern Vermont.

During the ride, passengers will be entertained with song and dance routines by the elves of the Theater and Dance program of Burr and Burton Academy under the direction of Broadway and Hollywood song and dance man, Jim Raposa. Tickets must be bought in advance and passengers are encouraged to purchase them early as seating is limited. Last year was a sellout. Dollar Skate for Fisher Elementary School

ARLINGTON -- The Fisher Elementary School Parent Teacher Group will host its annual Dollar Skate at Riley Rink on Sunday, from 1:15 p.m. to 3:15 p.m. The cost of admission is $1 for students and $3 for adults.

Come out and enjoy an afternoon of skating while supporting a valuable organization that works to support Fisher students, faculty and staff. Christmas Carol Sing

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass, -- The 1753 House on Field Park in Williamstown will once again host a free Christmas Carol Sing at 7:30 pm. (Rain/snow date is Dec. 23.) Deborah Burns, Gail M. Burns, and others will lead the caroling. Carol books are provided, the Williams Inn sends over hot mulled cider, and a roaring blaze will fill the fireplace crafted by Bart van Luling. Parking is available at the Inn and the Library. There is no heat or electricity in the ‘53 House, so dress warmly and bring a candle to see by.
