Legion post hosts bingo
POWNAL -- American Legion Post 90 in Pownal holds bingo on Thursdays. Doors open at 5 p.m. and bingo starts at 6:30 p.m. promptly. There will be two progressive games and a snack bar will be available.
Turkey Supper in Pownal
POWNAL -- The Pownal United Methodist Church, located at the corner of Route 346 and Church Street, will serve its annual Turkey Supper.
The menu includes: Roast turkey, dressing, gravy, mashed potatoes, winter squash, cranberry sauce, rolls, coffee, tea, or lemonade, apple, pumpkin, or mince pie with cheese. The family style dinner begins at 5 p.m. with continuous serving. Tickets available at the door, $12 for adults, $6 for children 4 to 10, and free for children 3 and under. Change in ‘Buddy' film series
MANCHESTER -- Mark Skinner Library announces a change in its "Buddy" film and discussion series with Harvey Flaxman. The film scheduled for screening on Oct. 17 at 6:30 p.m. has been replaced with an action comedy starring Nick Nolte and Eddie Murphy playing the tough cop and cool convict respectively. Rated R. Running time: 92 minutes.
Evening of songs and stories
MANCHESTER CENTER -- Join Green Mountain Academy for Lifelong Learning on Thursday, Oct. 17 at 7 p.m. for "Making a Difference: An Evening of Songs and Stories." This musical event takes place at Maple Street School in Manchester Center. One interesting, strange and inspiring one is that of New England's own Lara Herscovitch, who will share her songs and stories in a presentation as unique as her path.
Bennington Free Clinic and Vermont Health Connect
BENNINGTON -- The Bennington Free Clinic will be making appointments for people wishing to know more about Vermont Health Connect, and to sign up on Mondays and Thursdays.
The Bennington Free Clinic is providing free assistance to individuals, families and small businesses who have questions about the new Vermont insurance system, which was developed as part of the federal Affordable Care Act. A team of 10 trained navigators is available to answer questions and guide consumers through the enrollment process.
Starting on Jan. 1, 2014, all people in Vermont will be required to have health insurance, either through an employer or through the new online insurance marketplace, "Vermont Health Connect." The open enrollment period began on Oct. 1. Individuals and families will need to sign up for a VHC insurance plan by Dec. 15, for coverage to start on Jan. 1. There are different sign-up deadlines for small businesses.
Navigators are available by appointment at the following times: Every Monday, 10 a.m. to noon; every Thursday, 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.; and the third Monday of each month from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Other times may be available upon request.
