Preschool story hour
BENNINGTON -- A pre-school story hour for children 3 to 5 will be held from 10:30 to 11:15 a.m. in the Rotary Meeting Room at Bennington Free Library. Blessing of the animals
BENNINGTON -- Blessing of the Animals will be held at St. Peter's Episcopal Church at 200 Pleasant St. at 5 p.m. Bring you animal friends be they furry, feathered or otherwise to the south lawn of the church to be blessed. Questions call 442-2911.
Northshire Nonprofit Network meeting
MANCHESTER -- The next Northshire Nonprofit Network meeting will be on "Media, Press Releases and Advertising," from 8 to 9 a.m. at the Mark Skinner Library. Speakers will include Andrew McKeever, editor of The Manchester Journal, Liz Schafer, editor of The Vermont News Guide, and Tammie Reilly, executive director of GNAT-TV. The spotlight speakers will provide an overview of the specific geographic area they serve, the purpose of their programs, as well as how needs are addressed. There will be time for discussion and networking.
Pot Luck and Mystery Auction
POWNAL -- A "Pot Luck and Mystery Auction" will be held at 6 p.m. by the Pownal Valley Seniors at Pownal Center firehouse. Bring a wrapped gift to auction and a dish to pass.
Bennington Contra Dance
BENNINGTON -- From 7:30 to 10:30 p.m., Bennington Contradance presents its "first Friday" intergenerational community dance at the One World Conservation Center on Route 7 south of downtown. Caller Nils Fredland will teach all dances. Live dance music will be by the Russet Trio. The dance begins at 7:30. Everyone is welcome, all dances are taught, and no partner or experience is necessary. Admission is $10 for adults, $5 for under 12. Gentle Yoga begins Oct. 4th
BENNINGTON -- Friday Morning Yoga at Earthy Crunchy Mama, a six-week session of Gentle Yoga will begin on Friday, Oct. 4 at 9:15 at 227 River St. The fee for the session is $65 and will be taught by Teresa King. Fall Tag and Food Sale
BENNINGTON -- White Chapel Society of White Chapel Church will hold its annual fall tag and food sale on Oct. 4-5-6.
Pet Blessing at Catholic Churches
BENNINGTON/NORTH BENNINGTON -- Pet Blessing will be held at 1 p.m. at both SacredHeart-St. Francis de Sales in Bennington Bennington and at St. John the Baptist in North Bennington.
Annual Fill the Bus Food Drive
HOOSICK FALLS, N.Y. -- The third annual Fill the Bus Food Drive benefiting the Hoosick Area Church Association (HACA) Food Pantry will take place in Hoosick Falls from Oct. 7 to 13. The students of Hoosick Falls Central School and St. Mary's Academy are encouraged to bring food throughout the week.
On Friday, Oct. 11, at the HFCS Homecoming football game the bus will be open for the public to fill up. A raffle will be held this year at the football game for a 32-inch flat-screen T.V.
On Sunday, Oct. 13, from 9 a.m. to noon, a truck will be parked on Main Street near the Baptist Church to collect food. Meanwhile the school bus will be at the Cow Plop Giveaway and Car Show being held at the Hoosick Athletic Fields from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The HACA Food Pantry serves the greater Hoosick Falls community by supplying food and toiletries to more than 1,697 households per year. In 2012, 42,273 meals were given to those in need and that number keeps growing. This year the Food Pantry has served over 23,000 meals thus far and the holidays are quickly approaching.
All quarterly water and sewer bills due
BENNINGTON -- This is a reminder that all quarterly water and sewer bills (both flat and metered) are due Friday, Oct. 4. Payments may be made by personal check, bank check, money order or cash at the town offices. The town office is located at 205 South St. They are open Monday through Friday and accept payments between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. For a stamped receipt, you must bring both portions of the bill with you.
If you wish to pay by credit card, you must call the phone number at the top of your bill (official payments). They do not accept the credit cards at the town ffice.
