BENNINGTON -- The Bennington Free Clinic has added Monday hours, in addition to its Thursday schedule. It will be open from 10 a.m. to noon at the First Baptist Church, 601 Main St. Call for an appointment, 447-3700. Drop-ins will not be seen. Elks hosts bingo

BENNINGTON -- Every Monday, the Bennington Elks hosts bingo. There will be a $1,000 jackpot and 31 games for $13. Doors open at 5:30 p. m. and bingo starts at 7 p. m. The Bennington Elks is located at 125 Washington Ave.

Story time at Cheney Library

HOOSICK FALLS, N.Y. -- Cheney Library will hold a story time for preschoolers and their caregivers on Tuesdays at 10 a.m. in the library beginning Sept. 24. Several of the classic tales and songs, such as "Three Little Pigs," "This Old Man, Three Billy Goats Gruff," and "Eensy, Weensy Spider," plus four more will be told and song. Also there will be crafts and snacks.

MAUHS Ireland trip meetings

BENNINGTON -- A meeting for anyone interested in the Mount Anthony Union High School Ireland trip in April 2014 who was not able to attend a past meeting may attend meetings at 2:15 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 24, and Wednesday, Sept. 25, in Room 223. ’Burgoyne’ returns to Bennington

BENNINGTON -- British Lt. General John Burgoyne will be on the grounds of the Bennington Battle Monument State Historic Site at 15 Monument Circle, from 2 p.m. until 3:30 p.m. Although General Burgoyne never came to Bennington, his army was severely trounced in Walloomsac, New York at the now infamous Battle of Bennington. British writer-actor, Howard Burnham, presents encounters with the colorful British commander and will try to reclaim the captured British Army Camp Kettle preserved at the base of the Monument that is popularly known as "Burgoyne’s Kettle." The program takes place on the Monument grounds with four 15 minute encounters starting at 2 p.m., again at 2:30, 3 and 3:30 p.m. This event is free and open to the public. Further information is available online at www.historicsites.vermont.gov or call 802-447-0550.

Blood drive in Manchester

MANCHESTER -- The Manchester community will host a blood drive from noon to 5:30 p.m. Organizers are looking for all of the loyal and dedicated donors in the Manchester area to come to the First Congregational Church. Appointments are not necessary. However, one can make an appointment to give blood at this drive at the First Congregational Church by calling 1-800-843-3500 or by going on-line at redcrossblood.org.

Banned Books Week film at library

MANCHESTER -- Commemorate Banned Books Week by viewing "Storm Center" at the Mark Skinner Library at 7 p.m. In the 1956 classic film, a small-town librarian is branded as a communist by local politicians when she refuses to withdraw a controversial book from the library’s shelves. The librarian is played by the iconic Bet Advise and also stars Kim Hunter and Brian Keith.
